I recently attended a workshop hosted by my good fried Dr Syed Amiry on Pure Awareness. Pure Awareness is a series of techniques developed by author Tom Stone to help you and I live in what has become known as “The Present”, “The Flow”, or “The Power of Now”. His latest book, “The Power of How” describes why we get stuck in life and specific Pure Awareness techniques to collapse our fears and live constantly in “The Flow”
To be honest, I absolutely loved Dr Amiry’s talk on the subject and after a few days, I ordered Stone’s latest book, The Power of How.
I have read Eckert Tolle’s book, A New Earth and I really liked it. I also have practiced meditation with Holosync (www.centerpointe.com) for a number of years and am constantly researching different techniques and approaches for living in the flow including the works of Bill Harris, Genpo Roshi, Ken Wilbur, and many others. I also use Sacred Geometry to accelerate my growth. So, this topic is something I am very familiar with.
What I like about Stone’s work is that he gives a great framework for understanding why we get stuck in life and have dysfunctional feelings. Why we don’t feel whole most of the time.
Stone theorizes that much of it has to do with childhood conditioning. We are taught early on to not feel emotions fully so they don’t aren’t fully processed. And, when we are little (under 3), we don’t have the capacity to feel fully either. So, when our older brother takes our toy, we feel overwhelmed but don’t have the hardware capacity to fully feel our pain and move through it. That emotion is then stuck in our body if you will.
As adults, we grow up still operating on this old way of processing emotions and pains which are part of life. Again, these emotions linger and hinder our lives from moving forward.
In Stone’s system, then, the key to becoming fully aware is to process these old hurts and feel them fully. He offers a series of techniques for doing this and I have to say, they are super powerful and FAST. I have used a few of his techniques to vaporize some fears I had and I was blown away by how easy it was.
I have listened to conference calls where people were dealing with some serious childhood abandonment issues and they were vaporized in just a few minutes. Another woman had some fears about being a full time coach and she was laughing and moving forward with confidence in 5 minutes.
For example, lets say you have some deep anger toward your parents for something that happened in your childhood. One of the core techniques Tom would suggest, is to find in your body where that pain is. Where is it showing up? You might feel it in your stomach or other area. Then, in your minds eye, you go right into the “center” of that anger and focus right on it, feeling it fully. Then, he has you connect with Pure Awareness but noticing how much bigger the energy of the universe is in your minds eye. Amazingly, this technique just collapses the energy around that hurt and you feel a ton better. I have started laughing a number of times using this and other of Stone’s techniques.
Stone has a number of protocols for not only dealing with past hurts, but fears about the future, pursuing your dreams, dealing with money, relationships, etc.
What I really like about Stone’s approach is one, the framework he has developed for dealing understanding why we have these problems. I have an intellectual bent and like understanding the why as much as the how.
On the how side of things, I think Stone’s effort is the best yet at actually helping people live in Pure Awarness, The Flow, The Power of Now, etc. I loved Tolle’s work, “A New Earth”, but found it to be more of a description on what the end game or goal is, but not so much on how to get there.
How does “The Power of How” compare with other techniques I use? I still use and love Holosync and Sacred Geometry. Truly, enjoy both. But they are both more passive self developmental techniques. Holosync is used with headphones when I am chilling out and Sacred G is something I sleep on. I would not be without either.
The Power of How, on the other hand, is more active and experiential. You have to do it. The good news, is that it is very simple and easy to do. And, you can take it with you and teach it too others. Plus, it is very inexpensive.
So, if you really want to unleash your full potential and live the life of your dreams, I would heartily recommend Stone’s latest effort, “The Power of How”. It sets a new standard in self developmental work that is best in class in my mind.
